Led by Syrian-Canadian guitarist Tarek Ghriri, Flamenco Arabia blends flamenco guitar with the warm tones of the oud, intricate Middle Eastern percussion, and evocative Arabic and Spanish vocals. The ensemble’s sound is both traditional and modern, weaving together flamenco rhythms, Arabic maqam melodies, and improvisational elements to create a unique sonic landscape that transcends borders.
Performances can feature a variety of ensemble configurations, often including guitar, oud, percussion, and vocals, with the option of flamenco dance to further enhance the visual and emotional impact of the show. The presence of flamenco dance adds an additional layer of intensity and storytelling, transforming the performance into a dynamic, multi-sensory experience that captivates audiences.
Through original compositions and creative reinterpretations of traditional influences, Flamenco Arabia celebrates the centuries-old cultural exchange that shaped Andalusian music while presenting it through a contemporary lens. The project highlights how music can bridge cultures, connect histories, and create new artistic possibilities.
With its vibrant rhythms, expressive melodies, and visually engaging performances, Flamenco Arabia offers audiences an immersive journey into a musical world where Arabic and flamenco traditions meet, converse, and evolve together.
