Hinad Alshuhuf is an oud player living in Toronto whose work stands as a testament to the instrument’s ability to traverse boundaries—both musical and geographical. His artistry is defined by a clear mission of bridging traditional and modern music.
This duality is evident in his performances. In his solo work, Hinad explores a cinematic and contemplative atmosphere, utilizing the oud’s deep resonance to create intimate, meditative spaces. In contrast, his collaborative performances vibrate with a percussive, rhythmic energy, often creating a lively dialogue with guitars and percussion that sits on the border of flamenco and contemporary fusion.
Beyond the stage, Hinad is dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of Syrian, Arabic, and Oriental music. This commitment is highlighted by his contributions to the 2019 UNESCO publication Traditional Syrian Music and his previous work designing music programs to help refugee children connect with their cultural identity.
Since settling in Toronto, Hinad has become an integral thread in the city’s cultural tapestry. He has brought his distinct sound to major stages including the Luminato Festival 2023 and Global Toronto 2024, as well as the Arab Music Festival in Montreal. Additionally, he actively collaborates with a diverse array of initiatives and ensembles, including Diar Band, BAM-collective, Tablao Flamenco Toronto, Awtar, and Elbit Kibreet, all while maintaining an active career as a solo performer.
Hinad is an expert Arabic music performer and Oud soloist specializing in Weddings, Corporate Events, Private parties, and Receptions.
