JAZZ, POP, COCKTAIL, BRAZILIAN
Two decades into his polyvalent career as pianist, keyboardist, composer, arranger and DJ, David Ryshpan has become a fixture of Montreal’s cultural scene. He is a highly sought-after member of the “global music” community, playing with musicians from Haiti, Brazil, Senegal, Turkey and beyond.
David has toured the globe with Haitian MC Vox Sambou, samba-rock icon Jorge Ben Jor, and rising Brazilian-Canadian star Rômmel. He appears on award-winning albums by Montreal-based ensembles OktoEcho and Kleztory, as well as the acclaimed début album by Cézar Mendes (produced by Marisa Monte & Mario Caldato Jr.). Alongside his fertile career as a sideman, he is also the founder of Trio Bruxo and co-creator of the song cycle Alicuanta.
The Toronto-born musician came of age in the jazz community, taking workshops under the direction of Mike Murley, Dave Douglas, Jim McNeely and Michael Abene. His studies led him to Montreal’s McGill University, where he quickly became an integral part of CKUT’s jazz and global music radio programming.
