DJ Mellocat is a multi-genre DJ and classical/electric violinist known for her versatility and infectious energy. Passionate about blending party classics with cutting-edge electronic music and improvisational violin, she creates custom performances that captivate and energize any audience. Mellocat’s unique ability to seamlessly integrate her skills as a violinist into her DJ sets sets her apart, making her a dynamic performer in both the music and entertainment industries. Whether spinning tracks or playing the violin, she ensures every vibe is curated so that each event is unforgettable.
Mellocat is passionate about exploring different genres and bringing the violin and her unique sound to a variety of places, including unconventional spaces. While she has played the violin since five years old and been playing in orchestras since she was eight, she continues to perform in concert halls such as the Chan Centre and the Orpheum Theatre. However, she brings her classical skills with her on the electric violin to clubs, theatres, arenas and more.
Cat is honoured to have shared the stage with artists such as rapper and singer-songwriter “Flo Rida” where she performed her unreleased track “The Arena,” her take of her favourite classical violin concerto by composer Mendelssohn on an electronic beat. She also shared the stage with former Berlin Philharmonic concertmaster Guy Braunstein at the Interharmony International Music Festival in Italy. Other artists she has shared the stage with include rapper Young Dirty Bastard, DJs “Code Black” and “Audiofreq.”
Currently a resident DJ and violinist at Vancouver’s country bar “The Yale Saloon,” her country journey started as a fiddler in a Vancouver-based bluegrass band now known as the “Goat String Orchestra.” Then she entered the yee-dm scene, bringing her DJing and electric violin to special electronic fusion country nights at iconic country clubs across Canada and in the Midwest, such as “Midnight Rodeo” in Arkansas, and Ralph’s Texas Bar in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Both a dynamic session-recording artist and performer, she has been featured on tracks and in live performances by other artists and bands such as the Vancouver-based indie metal band “Reverend Ape,” and the jazz-fusion band “Chopping Spree.” A lover of chamber music, Cat is half of the “Eclipse Duo,” a classical/contemporary violin/piano duo with pianist and composer, Paniz Moslehi. She has her own jam studio in Vancouver where she is available for session-recordings, DJ/Violin lessons, commissioned work and collaborations.
Although Mellocat loves playing many genres from country to tech house, her DJ career is rooted in oldschool hiphop and R&B. An alumni of Tabletutors DJ Academy where she studied turntablism with notorious Vancouver DJ/scratcher DJ Relik, she enjoys playing for DJ battles, breakdance battles, cyphers and more. She is passionate about bringing the community (or the room) together through collaborative music and cross-genre sounds.
Whether in the studio, an arena, a bar or a concert hall, DJ Mellocat plays on anything. When she is not performing or recording, she is teaching violin and studying as she is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance at the University of British Columbia.
