Tarek began his musical journey in Syria, where he developed a passion for blending traditional Arabic music with flamenco styles. In April 2023, he released his debut album, Refugee in the Sea, a deeply personal work reflecting his journey and the experiences of the Syrian people—their struggles and the many who have found their final refuge in the depths of the Mediterranean.
Over the years, Tarek has honed his craft through performances at festivals and concerts across Syria, Lebanon, and Canada. He has also made special appearances on television and radio programs, showcasing his unique fusion of Arabic and flamenco music.
Since arriving in Canada, Ghriri has continued to merge these musical worlds, creating distinctive cross-cultural projects. He created and leads the Flamenco Arabia project, performs and co-produces Massyr (مَسير), and leads several local ensembles including Diar (دْيَار), among others.
Tarek has further refined his artistry through advanced flamenco guitar masterclasses in Spain with Amir John Haddad, deepening his approach to flamenco technique, composition, and cross-cultural musical dialogue.
In addition to performing, Tarek has been teaching music since 2008 and has been using music as a therapeutic tool since 2016. He strongly believes in the power of music to heal, inspire hope, and change lives. Through this approach, he has worked with children affected by war and displacement, using music to help them cope with trauma and stress.
